Seeking Fall Editorial Interns!

Internship Description:

Little Rock-based Et Alia Press seeks an intern to assist with submission assessments; book review, editing, and production; marketing and promotional materials and/or ideas; virtual event planning; and other related aspects of our publishing business. Benefits to the intern include being involved in many aspects of the day-to-day business of a small publisher, having her or his ideas taken seriously, and actively helping local authors and creators thrive. The intern will work remotely from wherever she or he is most productive, but will participate in pre-scheduled meetings or help with book events on occasion.

Responsibilities may include:

·         Review manuscripts and artwork for fall 2020 and spring 2021 publications including The Masked Project: 100 Portraits by Ashley Murphy (October), From Cotton to Silk: The Magic of Black Hair by Crystal C. Mercer (children’s title, November 20), Cartwheels: Finding Your Special Kind of Smart (children’s title, spring 2021).

·         Copyedit book manuscripts for review by senior editor

·         Participate in developmental editing discussions for manuscripts

·         Help with virtual book events/ attend if COVID-safe and intern is comfortable, and assist with planning, set up, and sales

·         Create and execute marketing plans

·         Draft and/or review e-newsletters on MailChimp

·         Assist with the development of promotional materials for print and social media

Requirements:

Strong editing skills, curiosity, energy for and attentiveness to small details, and an eagerness to produce quality work on time are essential. The candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision from her or his own computer, have a solid working knowledge of Track Changes in Microsoft Word and commenting on Google Docs in Google Drive, and be a dependable communicator prepared to meet deadlines. Special interest in preservation of local histories in their diversity and/or of health and wellness preferred but not required. Interest in or knowledge about developing social media presence is a plus. Additional opportunities are available if the intern has graphic design skills/interest although these are not necessary.
