Greg Adams Facilitates at the Association for Death Education and Counseling Conference

May 5, 2023

Adam Gets Back in the Game author Greg Adams recently served as a facilitator at the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) 2023 Conference from April 25-29 in Columbus, Ohio. Greg is a Fellow in Thanatology and the Program Coordinator for the Center for Good Mourning and Staff Bereavement Support at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Images include Greg with Dr. Sherry Schachter (Fellow in Thanatology and Past President of ADEC), Adam from New York, Rivi from Israel, and Dr. Joy Berger, Director of ADEC.

About Adam Gets Back in the Game, Dr. Sherry Schachter says, “Adam Gets Back in the Game is a wonderful children's book. While it would be helpful to children who are grieving a death of a loved one, the book is applicable to all children who are coping with a loss.”

ABOUT THE BOOK, written by GREG ADAMS and illustrated by PAIGE MASON.

Adam Gets Back in the Game helps open conversations with children about death, loss, and how grieving can help them return more fully to living.

For ten-year-old Adam, happiness is being involved in a little of everything, including his favorite thing of all, playing basketball with his best friend Isaiah. But when he falls on a broken bottle, everything must stop for his “big hurt.” Later, all that Adam learned in healing from his injured hand will be put to the test when Isaiah dies suddenly in an accident. Along with Adam, children experiencing the loss of a friend or family member can consider the costs of avoiding their pain and come to understand how grieving can help them more fully return to living.

8.5 x 8.5 Color Hardback (ISBN: 978-1-944528-14-0) Paperback (ISBN: 978-1-944528-84-3). 34 pages.

Adam Gets Back in the Game Helps Families Cope with Grief

September 4, 2020

Habitat for Humanity's central Arkansas chapter chose to include Adam Gets Back in the Game, written by Greg Adams and illustrated by Paige Mason, in its collection for Habitat families to use.

A mother read the book to her kids whose father had died. She sent this photograph and her email comments are shared with permission:

"We read the book as a family last night. I could see the change in his emotions when he read the part about Adam's friend dying. After we finished the book he was able to identify with the book in certain areas and even brought up his dad as well. We will read it a few more time then place it in the library box just in case it can be helpful to another family in Porter Cove. Thank you again for the book."

Know a family coping with loss that could be helped by this book? Find it here.
